Lucinda Chumley, Women’s Retreat Speaker
Our family became involved at Calvin Crest about twenty years ago, while living and working in Fresno. I have several memories that stand out like photographs. One summer, my husband was speaking for a Jr. High camp and I was hugely pregnant with our third daughter. The walk from Cedar Lodge was a challenge and my entire family would line up behind me like cars on a train to push me up the hill! Another summer while we were here, I read a book called What’s So Amazing About Grace. Reading that book in this environment was so impacting, I consider it a life-transforming event.
Around 2004 or 2005, I was invited to be the guest speaker at the annual Women’s Retreat. The experience was so meaningful, I added “speak at Calvin Crest again” to my bucket list. Of course, a desire like that is not a goal I can reach by myself but rather a dream which only God can fulfill for me. God’s hand is seen in a grand way when He fulfills the desires of our hearts.
Not only have I been invited to speak at this year’s Women’s Retreat, I am also living and working at Calvin Crest! Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined this scenario for our family. People who love Calvin Crest will understand what I mean when I say being a part of this community is like a dream come true.
